Email from Dr. James A. Calvin, November 9, 2006
NEO email with details of the impact of upcoming ILSB construction tasks on campus streets and traffic.
As promised earlier this week, I am sending this e-mail to provide details about the disruption of parking and traffic on campus related to the construction of the Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building.
We are making every effort to minimize the impact of construction on the daily activities of students, faculty members and staff. There is some important work scheduled to begin prior to the winter holiday break and will be completed before the break ends. These tasks are vital to the goal of completing the ILSB project on time.
1: Beginning on November 10, 2006, JE Dunn will install thermal piping through the eastern portion of the PA 20 parking lot from the ILSB construction site to where the lines turn east near Jones Street. This work is scheduled to be completed by January 20, 2007. Persons with parking permits for the area of PA 20 to be affected have already been notified of this change by Transportation Services.
2: On November 13, 2006, the process of moving and improving the utility infrastructure along Houston Street will begin. This work will require the closing of Houston Street of A.P. Beutel Health Center, while a sanitary sewer connection is installed. Completion of this task is scheduled for November 26, 2006.
3: Beginning November 27, 2006, the contractor will install thermal lines in the Fish Pond area from just east of Houston Street to the connection points at Military Walk. The sidewalk on the east side of Houston will remain open. Completion of this task is slated for January 20, 2007.
4: Beginning December 18, 2006, the contractor will be installing thermal lines from the Fish Pond area across Houston Street. Houston Street will thus remain closed between the Beutel Health Center drive and Jones Street. This task should be completed by January 2, 2007.
5: Also beginning on December 18, 2006, Jones Street, to the north of the ILSB construction site, will be closed until January 20, 2007. During this time the contractor will install thermal piping between Jones Street and the All Faiths Chapel.
Throughout all these tasks, Beutel Health Center and Henderson Hall will remain open and accessible to emergency vehicles. The Fish Pond area will NOT be open for unofficial or non-emergency traffic, however.
Please feel free to contact me or visit the ILSB Web site at http://ilsb.tamu.edu if you have any questions regarding these details of the construction process and schedule. For maps showing the various closures and their effects on vehicle and pedestrian traffic, please see
